First two high power charging stations launched in Slovenia

The first two out of 26 power charging stations for electric cars were launched in Slovenia in October 2015. By the end of the year, Slovenia will have rapid charging stations every 50 kilometers along its motorway network. The initiative is part of the "Central European Green Corridors (CEGC)" project aimed at establishing a dense network of 115 interoperable fast charging stations in Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Croatia.

More than 10 strong partners, among them leading car manufacturers (BMW, Nissan, Renault and VW), OMV location partners, the Slovak energy supply company ZSE, the Slovenian Government and Slovenian electricity network operator SODO will fast track the tightening of the fast charging station network in order to make daily use of electric cars more comfortable.

The EUR 2m project was awarded for funding by the European Commission, in line with the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) programme call. A total of EUR 620,000 came from EU funds, while the rest was provided by Slovenian partners.

"It takes just over half an hour to charge up to some 80% empty batteries of cars performing at between 18 and 24 kilowatt hours," explained SODO boss Matjaz Vodusek before the launch of the first two charging stations.
