INTERVIEW

SOUTH-EAST EUROPEAN INDUSTRIAL МARKET » South-East European INDUSTRIAL Мarket - issue 4/2015, NOVEMBER
Together with the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Messe Muenchen mirrors the Bulgarian market at its shows

Dr. Michael Poellmann,
Executive Director Global Sales,
Messe Muenchen, for the South-East European Industrial Market magazine

Dear Mr. Poellmann, this year Messe Muenchen and the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce celebrate 20 years of successful partnership. Which are the most important goals that you accomplished together for this period?
The first goal was to provide all Bulgarian exhibitors and visitors to our representative office a professional service with regards to necessary participation information. The second goal was to mirror the Bulgarian market at our shows. As Bulgaria has been able to multiply the visitors by 6 times and the exhibitors by 7 times since 1995, we have been able to realize a very good visibility of the Bulgarian industry at our international exhibitions.

What opportunities for the German-Bulgarian business do Messe Muenchen's exhibitions provide?
Messe Muenchen's portfolio includes 14 worldwide leading tradeshows like bauma, BAU, electronica, Expo Real, ISPO, transport logistic, drinktec and many more. These shows are able to provide a window for Bulgarian enterprises to the international demand of the various industries. An average of more than 2 million business visitors represent more than 2 million business opportunities.

To use these melting pots of offer and demand creates real business contacts, visibility and media coverage. All of our shows are supported by a great range of services and media opportunities to increase the participation's impact. That means that with our shows everything is prepared for giving Bulgarian companies the best stage to show their strengths.

How do fairs influence the development of the exhibitor and guest companies and the global business climate?
Messe Muenchen is a gateway to the world. Several leading trade fairs bring together the international "Who's Who" of their respective industries and serve as a springboard that gives exhibitor and guest companies access to growth markets around the world.

A leading international trade fair with the newest products can communicate to the visitor what current state-of-the-art is around the globe, where trends are leading, and if there are exciting innovators or niche suppliers available within just a few days.

Which of Messe Muenchen's events have proven as most successful through the years? How does the Fair adapt to the ever-changing trends in the exhibition business?
We are lucky to have a long row of events established since decades, including BAU, electronica, IFAT, ISPO and of course bauma, our flagship to this day. A further very successful trade fair is Expo Real, Europe's largest real estate and investment trade fair.

Critical for the future success is further internationalization, it's the only way to strengthen our position in dynamically growing markets around the world. We export our key trade fairs to the most important growth regions in the world.

Messe Muenchen is also consistently following the path of digitalization. For example, it offers a number of ways to improve fair-related services. This is why Messe Muenchen is creating platforms for its customers that will make it accessible to them 365 days a year. It enables us as trade show organizer to bring exhibitors together with existing as well as potential new business partners.

What are your impressions of the Bulgarian industry and commerce based on the performance of the Bulgarian companies participating in Messe Muenchen's exhibitions?
What I have seen at our shows is that Bulgarian enterprises exhibit very professionally and are able to compete internationally. The open minded and reliable mentality supports the increasing visibility of the Bulgarian industry at our exhibitions.

Which will be the highlights in your activities in 2016? What should local companies willing to participate in the upcoming industrial events know?
2016 is "year of bauma". The biggest trade fair of the world takes up 605.000 square meters, is sold up and has a long waiting list again. Spin-offs in China and India in the second half of the year will strengthen again its leading position in the global sector. bauma China is the second largest trade fair in our entire portfolio and pilots at the same time more and more exhibitors and visitors to the Number 1 in Munich.

In January ISPO fills again all halls. The same goes for IFAT in May/June, the world's leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management. In June we celebrate the groundbreaking of two new halls. We need the new capacities to supply the demand, to improve our service and our position in international competition. As you can see, we will have a lot of exciting highlights in 2016.
